A valuable source of funding for rural communities is the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Intermediary Relending Program (USDA/IRP), administered by the North Carolina Technological Development Authority, Inc. The USDA/IRP program was established to accelerate the growth and economic development of North Carolina's rural communities. The program is funded by a $2.25 million loan from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. The Intermediary Relending Program provides loans to emerging companies in rural areas statewide, focusing primarily on sound, strong companies that require financing for expansion. The program also provides loans to community organizations seeking capital for the development of business incubators in North Carolina's rural sector. Loan applicants must demonstrate sound management experience, have a good record of debt repayment and show reasonable assurance that the loan will be repaid. Selected recipients of the IRP loans typically have the potential to provide a large number of jobs in the rural areas of North Carolina. For more information on this program and details on how to apply for a loan, please contact John C. Draper. |
